Hi Sea: A Floating Haven

Xinmeng Dong's Innovative Hotel Design Marries Aesthetics with Safety

Hi Sea, a floating hotel designed by Xinmeng Dong, offers a unique blend of aesthetics, safety, and privacy. Located 500 meters off the coast of China’s southern Fujian province, this innovative design provides guests with unrivaled views of the water and spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

The design inspiration for Hi Sea comes from the desire to create a harmonious relationship between man, nature, and architectural space. The interior design is simple and concise, with a basic tone of original wood color that creates a warm and friendly atmosphere. The diamond-shaped carpet and polygonal coffee table inject a sense of fashion into the space. A large area of foldable glass serves as a huge movie screen, transitioning the infinite seascape seamlessly into the interior.

What sets Hi Sea apart from other designs is its location and layout. The hotel is like a floating island, independent from the mundane world. In terms of design layout, equal attention is paid to aesthetics and safety. The selection of materials is rigorous, with the roof adopting decorative materials commonly used in airport terminals and yachts, which are corrosion-resistant and acid-resistant. The outdoor deck is made of weather-resistant flooring, with a texture comparable to solid wood, which is environmentally friendly and fire preventive.

The 500 square meters space is equipped with a living room, three guest rooms, and a kitchen. Boats and kayaks are docked next to the building, providing guests with various recreational options. The principle of only receiving one group of guests at a time ensures the hotel's privacy.

At the beginning of construction, considering natural factors such as ocean currents and monsoons, the architects accurately calculated buoyancy based on fish raft construction technology and reserved surplus bearing capacity to ensure that the main body of the building is strong and can withstand hurricanes. This attention to detail and commitment to safety is a testament to the design team's dedication and expertise.

Hi Sea was designed and finished in 2020, in Zhangzhou, China. It was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

Hi Sea is a unique hotel design that offers a blend of aesthetics, safety, and privacy. Its innovative design and attention to detail make it a standout in the field of architecture and design. Whether it's the warm and friendly interior, the spectacular views, or the rigorous safety measures, Hi Sea offers a unique and unforgettable experience for its guests.
